Today we meet again with the mystery of the Resurrection. His message, well known, but ever new, is that Christ has removed death with his power. We Christians are called to live, proclaim and celebrate this victory over death. We are called to resist all forms of death and violence in our culture. As with the women before the empty grave, it may be that others scoff at the news. But we know in our hearts that Christ lives, having descended to the depths of the grave. Death cannot take away the victory of life. Today at Easter, we see flowers everywhere. These flowers have grown from seeds and bulbs that appeared dead. Today they are blooming in a profusion of color and perfume. They are symbols of what happens in our lives. The pains and sufferings of life are seeds, which, with the grace of God, can be turned into an outpouring of joy and compassion. Today, more than any other day of the year, we should joyfully sing “This is the day the Lord acted; Be our joy and our joy". So Happy Easter everyone and may your day be filled with the beauty of flowers and the hope of the Resurrection.
