We continue to celebrate the Easter season today, this fifty-day celebration of the risen Lord's victory over the grave. It stretches from Easter Sunday itself to Pentecost Sunday, when we mark the day when the Holy Spirit came down upon the first apostles. At the Last Supper Jesus told his disciples that he and the Father would make their dwelling with them and send the Holy Spirit to remind them of everything he taught them. Let us rejoice this Easter season for God's abiding presence with us. Each of today's readings looks toward the future while assuring us of God's continuing presence with us. The apostles rely on the Holy Spirit to guide them as to which Mosaic practices are necessary for all Christians. The author of Revelation envisions a new Jerusalem, radiant in the glory of God. In the Gospel Jesus tells his disciples that the Father would send the Holy Spirit to teach them, to remind them of his words, and to advocate for them. In the presence of the Spirit, let us listen to God's word.

Seguimos celebrando hoy el tiempo pascual, esta celebración de cincuenta días de la victoria del Señor resucitado sobre la tumba. Se extiende desde el mismo Domingo de Pascua hasta el Domingo de Pentecostés, cuando marcamos el día en que el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre los primeros apóstoles. En la Última Cena Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos que él y el Padre harían su morada con ellos y les enviaría el Espíritu Santo para recordarles todo lo que les había enseñado. Regocijémonos en esta temporada de Pascua por la presencia permanente de Dios con nosotros. Cada una de las lecturas de hoy mira hacia el futuro mientras nos asegura la presencia continua de Dios con nosotros. Los apóstoles confían en el Espíritu Santo para que los guíe en cuanto a qué prácticas mosaicas son necesarias para todos los cristianos. El autor de Apocalipsis imagina una nueva Jerusalén, radiante en la gloria de Dios. En el Evangelio, Jesús les dice a sus discípulos que el Padre enviaría el Espíritu Santo para enseñarles, recordarles sus palabras y sostenerlos. En presencia del Espíritu, escuchemos atentamente la palabra de Dios.

Dios usó la imagen de un pastor para describir su relación de la alianza y el cuidado por su pueblo escogido que fue llamado por su nombre (Salmo 80:1 y 100:3). Dios llamó a David, quien apacentó el rebaño de su padre en su juventud, para ser el rey ungido y pastor de su pueblo Israel (Ezequiel 37:24). Jesús, el Mesías y Rey ungido de Dios, nacido de la tribu de David, se llamó a sí mismo el Buen Pastor del pueblo que su Padre le había encomendado (Juan 10:29). El Apóstol Pedro nos dice que el Señor Jesús es el Buen Pastor y Guardián de nuestras almas (1 Pedro 2:25). Él mantiene una estrecha y personal vigilancia sobre cada una de sus ovejas, sus seguidores (discípulos) que le pertenecen. Nos llama personalmente a cada uno de nosotros por nuestro nombre para que lo sigamos. Y promete ser nuestro guardián y protector de las asechanzas de nuestro enemigo, Satanás, el padre de la mentira y homicida desde el principio (Juan 8:44). El Señor nos lleva cada día a buenos pastos, lugares donde podemos alimentarnos de su palabra y beber de las fuentes de agua viva que es su Espíritu Santo (Juan 7:38-39, Juan 4:14). Si nos alimentamos de su palabra y bebemos del agua viva del Espíritu Santo, encontraremos el alimento y la fuerza que necesitamos para vivir cada día para su gloria y honra. ¿Reconoces la voz de tu Pastor y Guardián que te llama cada día?

God used the image of a shepherd to describe his covenant relationship and care for his chosen people who were called by his name (Psalm 80:1 and 100:3). God called David, who shepherded his father's flock in his youth, to be the anointed king and shepherd for his people Israel (Ezekiel 37:24). Jesus, God's anointed Messiah and King, born from the tribe of David, called himself the Good Shepherd of the people whom his Father had entrusted to his care (John 10:29). Peter the Apostle tells us that the Lord Jesus is the Good Shepherd and Guardian of our souls (1 Peter 2:25). He keeps a close and personal watch over every one of his sheep - his followers (disciples) who belong to him. He calls each of us personally by name to follow him. And he promises to be our guardian and protector from the snares of our enemy, Satan, the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44). The Lord leads us each day to good pastures - places where we can feed on his word and drink from the well-springs of living water which is his Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39, John 4:14). If we feed on his word and drink from the living water of the Holy Spirit, we will find the nourishment and strength we need to live each day for his glory and honor.
